What Is Yellow Fever?
Yellow fever is a serious viral infection spread by mosquitoes in parts of sub-Saharan Africa and tropical South America. It can cause fever, jaundice, and in severe cases, life-threatening organ failure. There is no specific treatment, which makes vaccination the single most important protection for travellers to affected regions.
Do I Need the Yellow Fever Vaccine?
The yellow fever vaccine is recommended for travel to at-risk areas of sub-Saharan Africa and tropical South America. Many countries in these regions also legally require proof of vaccination for entry — and some will refuse entry without a valid certificate. Your pharmacist can advise based on your specific itinerary.
Yellow Fever Certificate (ICVP)
At your appointment we will issue the official International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP), which becomes valid 10 days after vaccination and, under current WHO guidance, is valid for life. Keep it with your passport when you travel.
When Should I Get Vaccinated Before Travel?
Because the certificate only becomes valid 10 days after the injection, you should book your yellow fever vaccine at least 2 weeks before departure. Contact us as soon as you know your travel plans.
Side Effects of the Yellow Fever Vaccine
Most people experience only mild side effects such as soreness at the injection site, a slight headache, or a low fever within a few days. Serious reactions are rare, and our healthcare professional will assess your suitability before vaccinating.
