What Is the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service?

This service allows women to access and continue oral contraception directly through a community pharmacy, without needing a separate GP appointment — including starting a new method or getting an ongoing supply.

Am I Eligible?

The service is available to women who are suitable for oral contraception, based on a health check with our pharmacist. Some medical histories mean oral contraception isn’t suitable, in which case we’ll refer you to your GP or a sexual health clinic for other options.

What Happens at My Consultation?

Our pharmacist will discuss your health history and check your blood pressure, to confirm oral contraception is safe and suitable for you, in a private consultation room.

What Happens Next?

If suitable, you’ll be given advice on how to take your chosen method correctly and what to do if you miss a pill, along with a supply and details on getting repeat supplies going forward.

What if Oral Contraception Isn’t Right for Me?

If oral contraception isn’t suitable for you, our pharmacist will explain why and refer you to your GP practice or a local sexual health clinic to discuss other contraceptive options.

What our patients say

Trusted by the Chiswick community

“I’ve been using Alisha pharmacy for 20 years now. I have other pharmacies nearer to my home, but I always use Alisha because Raj and all the rest of the team there are so friendly, professional, knowledgeable, informative and helpful. They obviously really care about what they do. A local gem.”

— P Hall, Google Review

“Raj the pharmacist runs a service of excellence and care to his local community. He and his team go above and beyond and know their community. The standard has always been exemplary. Would be such a tragedy to lose all of this to something impersonal and generic.”

— Harika Basharan, Google Review
