What Is Typhoid?
Typhoid fever is a serious bacterial infection caused by Salmonella typhi, spread through contaminated food and water. It causes high fever, abdominal pain, and in severe cases can be life-threatening without treatment.
Do I Need the Typhoid Vaccine?
Typhoid vaccine is strongly recommended for travel to South Asia, Southeast Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and parts of South America and the Middle East. It is one of our most requested travel vaccines.
When Should I Get Vaccinated?
At least 2 weeks before departure is ideal, but the vaccine can be given at any point before travel. Please book ahead where possible, as we may need to order the vaccine in.
How Many Doses Do I Need?
A single injection provides protection for 3 years. No booster dose is required within this period.
Side Effects of the Typhoid Vaccine
Side effects are generally mild: soreness at the injection site, mild fever, and headache. These resolve quickly.

How long does the typhoid vaccine last?
The injectable typhoid vaccine (Vi polysaccharide) provides protection for 3 years. An oral typhoid vaccine (Vivotif) provides protection for approximately 1 year.
Do I need the typhoid vaccine for my trip?
It depends on your destination. Typhoid is endemic across much of South Asia, Southeast Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and parts of South America and the Middle East. We strongly recommend vaccination for travellers to these high-risk areas.
What is the difference between injectable and oral typhoid vaccine?
The injectable vaccine is a single injection. The oral vaccine is a course of capsules taken over several days. Both offer similar protection. We offer the injectable vaccine.
Can I get the typhoid vaccine last minute?
The vaccine is a single injection, but please call ahead before booking a last-minute appointment — we may need to order the vaccine in specially, so booking as early as possible gives the best chance of it being ready in time for your trip.
How far in advance do I need to book my Typhoid Vaccination?
Online booking is available from 2 days ahead, giving us time to prepare your vaccine. If you need it sooner than that, please call us and we will do our best to fit you in.
