What Is Dengue?

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection common throughout the tropics and subtropics, including parts of Asia, Africa, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. It typically causes high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, and a rash; in rare cases it can progress to a more severe, potentially serious form.

Do I Need the Dengue Vaccine?

Vaccination may be recommended for travellers to dengue-endemic areas, particularly those making repeated or long-stay visits, or who have previously had a confirmed dengue infection. Our pharmacist will assess your itinerary and health history to check suitability.

When Should I Get Vaccinated?

The course should ideally be completed at least a few weeks before travel to allow full protection to develop.

How Many Doses Do I Need?

The course consists of 2 doses, given approximately 3 months apart.

Side Effects of the Dengue Vaccine

Common side effects include soreness at the injection site, headache, muscle pain and tiredness, which usually settle within a few days.

What our patients say

Trusted by the Chiswick community

“I’ve been using Alisha pharmacy for 20 years now. I have other pharmacies nearer to my home, but I always use Alisha because Raj and all the rest of the team there are so friendly, professional, knowledgeable, informative and helpful. They obviously really care about what they do. A local gem.”

— P Hall, Google Review

“Raj the pharmacist runs a service of excellence and care to his local community. He and his team go above and beyond and know their community. The standard has always been exemplary. Would be such a tragedy to lose all of this to something impersonal and generic.”

— Harika Basharan, Google Review
