What Is Polio?

Polio (poliomyelitis) is a viral infection that can affect the nervous system, in rare cases causing paralysis. Thanks to widespread vaccination it is now rare globally, but it remains present in a small number of countries and can still cause outbreaks.

Do I Need the Polio Vaccine?

A booster is recommended for travellers to regions where the virus is still circulating, or where vaccination coverage is lower, especially if it has been some time since your last dose.

When Should I Get Vaccinated?

Ideally at least 2 weeks before you travel.

How Many Doses Do I Need?

A single booster is usually sufficient if you have had a primary course before. If your vaccination history is unclear or incomplete, you may need additional doses.

Side Effects of the Polio Vaccine

Generally mild: soreness at the injection site or feeling slightly unwell.

What our patients say

Trusted by the Chiswick community

“I’ve been using Alisha pharmacy for 20 years now. I have other pharmacies nearer to my home, but I always use Alisha because Raj and all the rest of the team there are so friendly, professional, knowledgeable, informative and helpful. They obviously really care about what they do. A local gem.”

— P Hall, Google Review

“Raj the pharmacist runs a service of excellence and care to his local community. He and his team go above and beyond and know their community. The standard has always been exemplary. Would be such a tragedy to lose all of this to something impersonal and generic.”

— Harika Basharan, Google Review
