What Is HPV?
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a very common virus spread through skin-to-skin contact, usually during sexual activity. While most infections clear on their own, some strains can lead to genital warts, and persistent infection with certain high-risk strains is linked to cervical, anal and other cancers.
Do I Need the HPV Vaccine?
The HPV vaccine is recommended for anyone wanting to reduce their risk of HPV-related disease, ideally before becoming sexually active — though there is still benefit in having it later. It’s suitable for both men and women.

When Should I Get Vaccinated?
There’s no fixed timing requirement — you can start the course whenever suits you. Earlier vaccination, before exposure to HPV, offers the greatest benefit.
How Many Doses Do I Need?
Most people under 25 need a single dose. Those 25 or older, or with a weakened immune system, may need 2 or 3 doses — your pharmacist will confirm what’s right for you at your consultation.
Side Effects of the HPV Vaccine
Side effects are usually mild, such as dizziness, nausea, headache or a slight fever.
